Smurfilter - Random Step Filter VST3 (Free)

Hold a chord and the filter starts talking. Thank God it's Filterday. It's also free. Smurfilter is a random step filter in a stompbox. Every step, the filter jumps to a new frequency and holds it until the next one. Nothing sweeps smoothly and nothing repeats. You get bubbling, chattering, vocal movement that follows the beat if you want it to, and wanders on its own if you don't. Four knobs, a level, two switches SPEED: how often it jumps, from a lazy drift to a fast stutter. FREQ: the centre the steps wander around, from a low growl to a bright squeak. Q: soft and wide at the bottom, narrow and ringing at the top. Turn it up for the classic talking-filter sound. MIX: from a hint of movement to filter only. LEVEL: output, -12 to +12 dB, so the pedal sits level with your bypass sound. MODE: LP, BP or HP. FREE / SYNC: FREE runs on SPEED. SYNC locks the steps to your DAW's tempo, from whole notes down to 1/32 with dotted and triplet values, and stays on the grid when a loop jumps back. A STEP lamp blinks on every jump, so you can see the rate while you play. Put it after the dirt The filter has more to grab when there are harmonics in front of it. Put it after a fuzz or distortion, set Q high and MIX all the way up, and funk and alt-rock rhythm parts come out bubbling. It pairs well with FC-2 Turbo, which is also free. Run FC-2 first, then Smurfilter.
